Training at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College, Bangladesh
Shaheed Suhrawardi Medical College Hospital (SSMC) in Dhaka is a major centre for treating burn patients in the country and has a refurbished burn unit with 36 beds. The Acid Survivors Foundation (ASF) arranged an EBC for staff, recently graduated intern doctors and staff from Savar Upazila Health Complex, a primary-level community hospital that is also part of our 3 year UK Department for International Development (DFID) programme. The course was introduced by ASF’s executive director, Selina Ahmed (pictured).
286 staff have benefitted from EBC over the last 2 years, delivered in Bengali, with support from Interburns, the National Institute for Burns and Plastic Surgery and the Bangladeshi Society of Burn Injuries. 3 more EBC’s are planned for regional medical college hospitals in the rural periphery of Bangladesh.
ASF will also play a critical role in the forthcoming Interburns Advanced Burn Care (ABC) Nursing programme at the National Institute in Dhaka in March 2016.Our sincere thanks to all the faculty and local organisers from ASF and SSMC for all their work in planning and delivering this programme.
