Partnership with Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Ghana
In January 2015 Interburns sent a multi-disciplinary team to work with our partners in Ghana, Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra. The team worked closely with staff at the National Reconstructive Plastic Surgery and Burns unit (RPSB) which has the largest burn unit in Ghana and is the main government teaching hospital for the south of Ghana. This work included an assessment and recommendations for improving the service, using Interburns tools developed for Asia and Africa. This project was funded through the Wales for Africa Health Links programme.
The Interburns team also visited the second government burn unit at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi and carried out a similar assessment with local staff in the burn unit. Interburns also met with a number of key people in the Ghanaian Ministry of Health, Health Services and leadership of both hospitals, to discuss the development of a national strategy for improving burn care and prevention in Ghana.
