Social media used for burn prevention

We have been so impressed by the way our partners in the West Bank and Gaza have adapted their burn prevention work to the challenging situation brought about by COVID-19. Most primary health care centres and mosques have been shut since mid-March to prevent transmission, but planned community prevention messages have gone ahead, albeit in a slightly different form.

Awareness raising sessions have been replaced by a national media campaign using local TV and Facebook pages of the most popular news sites.

A wonderful puppet show, using puppets handmade by children especially for this purpose, was recently filmed in Gaza so that it can be shared on social media sites. The show helps raise awareness of the risk of burns in the home and will soon include English subtitles. Here is the first version of the video which we will put on our You Tube channel when it is finished. https://drive.google.com/open?id=1giSrZQaoDh2hZ8DwjRg4ir1Azy6aQzH8

Burn prevention brochures and posters have been printed, ready to distribute in Gaza and the West Bank through a door to door campaign in high risk burn areas such as a Bedouin village in the north of Gaza. Distribution will include the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Education as well as targeted locations in Gaza and WB. Congratulations to Medical Aid for Palestinians and AWRAD for such innovative work at this difficult time.

Basic Burn Care (BBC) training has been postponed but as it is incorporated into the Ministry of Health’s own training activities in the West Bank, we are confident that it will reach many thousands of healthcare workers in future and we are eager for primary health care workers in Gaza to also receive this training. Burn prevention materials are published on:
