Interburns nurses win prize.
Congratulations to Interburns team members Dominique Potokar, Sarah Reavenall and Danni Mehrez, nurses from the Welsh Centre for Burns and Plastic Surgery at Swansea’s Morriston Hospital, for winning the Cavell Nurses’ Trust Special Achievement Award in London on 18 May. This was in recognition for their pivotal role in the development and delivery of the Advanced Burn Care Nursing course in Dhaka, Bangladesh in March 2016, as part of our ongoing project in Bangladesh and Nepal.
Dominique said, “I’m really delighted to win the Cavell Nurses’ Trust Special Achievement Award, which is a significant step both for me personally and for the recognition it gives to the work of the team. It shows that Welsh nurses can build worldwide connections with other health professionals, share their expertise and help put Wales on the map when it comes to improving global health.”
Sarah added, “I’m so pleased to win this award and delighted to be a member of Interburns. It’s wonderful to have the opportunity to build global relationships that help raise the standard of burns awareness and care.”
Danni said: “It is an honour to receive the Special Achievement Award. Burn injuries present the professionals who treat them with unique challenges. Working with Interburns is a fulfilling experience that involves sharing skills across the globe to promote and develop effective burn healthcare.”
Simon Knighton, Cavell Nurses’ Trust Chairman said, “Dominique, Sarah and Danni show us so clearly the remarkable impact nurses have on patients’ lives, whether suffering a terrible burn in Bangladesh or right here in the UK.”
Congratulations to Dominique, Sarah and Danni for receiving this award. Interburns would also like to thank the other members of our international team who were closely involved in the delivery of the programme in Bangladesh.
