Surgeons, nurses and therapists attend EBC.

Since 2013, EBC has been delivered independently in Nepal by local faculty through the Nepal Burn Society, training 790 staff in hospitals across Nepal. This training is delivered in the local language, enabling us to train staff in remote rural districts at a fraction of the cost of sending an international team.

NBS completed a training in Ishan Children’s Hospital on 19th January 2019, for staff from services treating burn injuries across Kathmandu. Hospitals include the main national government burn services for Nepal for adult and paediatric patients and other government, NGO and private services including the National Trauma Centre at Bir Hospital, Kirtipur Hospital, Kanti Children’s Hospital, Patan Hospital, Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH), Kathmandu Medical College, Sushma Koirala Memorial Hospital, and several others.

35 staff participated: 17 surgeons and doctors, 12 nurses, 5 physiotherapists and a hospital manager. Many of the individual clinicians were new staff at their respective burn units who have never received burn care training.

Interburns would like to thank the Nepal Burn Society and all members of the faculty for running the EBC training. We would also like to thank the UK Department for International Development (DFID) for its support for our overall programme in Nepal, which DFID has funded since 2013 through two consecutive 3 year projects.
