Nepal celebrates World Burns Week

World Burn Week 2025 was celebrated worldwide with the theme ‘From Burn to Recovery, Prevention is Key’.

In Nepal, Interburns partnered with Sushma Koirala Memorial Hospital (SKMH), Interplast Nepal (IPNL), and Rotary Clubs to organize a week-long burn prevention campaign. 4 Community Burn Prevention (CBP) programmes were held in 4 locations, engaging 175 participants.

On November 3rd, 33 participants attended including Rotary Club members of Sankhu and Pashupati, patient visitors, and community members from Churchwork. The session began with an introduction to burns, their types, causes, and impacts, followed by essential on-site burn first aid, a video demonstration on wound cooling and the STOP, DROP, and ROLL technique.

36 students and teacher organised CBP session at Paluwari Community School on 4 November with a focus on identifying preventative measures for burns at school and in the home. On 5th November, CBP was held for 54 nursing students of Maharajgunj Medical Campus at Kanti Children’s Hospital. For many, it was their first hands-on experience participating in a workshop focused on burn-related care.

World Burns Week concluded with a burn prevention workshop at JP School Thamel, in partnership with the Rotary Club of Thamel and the JP Alumni Association. 52 students learned about burn prevention and first aid and shared practical burn prevention measures. The session provided them with a chance to reflect on their own experiences and collectively present ideas on how to prevent burns in daily life.

Congratulations all on amazing efforts for World Burns Week 2025!
