A Practical Guide to Quality Improvement in Burn Care.

Quality improvement in burn care does not always rely on more funding or resources, though they are always helpful. Much can be achieved by individuals or teams who are prepared to work with what they have in order to make a difference.

In partnership with Interburns and funded by the NIHR, the Centre for Global Injury Policy and Research (CGBIPR) has been working to develop, test and improve this simple but powerful idea. The result is a fantastic resource that gives a step by step approach to implementing positive change in a burn unit.

Full of case studies and examples, the Practical Guide to Quality Improvement in Burn Care is based on a quality improvement course run by the Centre in Malawi in 2019. This course, developed for nurses working in burn care, aimed to empower them to run their own QI project from an asset-based perspective, using what they had to improve patient outcomes and the quality of care.

The Guide takes the reader through eight practical steps to identify, plan, and measure change. Using the real life projects carried out by the participants, practical examples illuminate how QI processes can work in low resource settings when enthusiasm, creativity and team effort are brought into play.
