Kathmandu To Dhaka (K2D) Motorbike Trip: Raising money for Interburns (April 2014)

Several members of Interburns are taking part in a motorbike ride from the capital of Nepal (Kathmandu) to the capital of Bangladesh (Dhaka) in October 2014, to raise funds for the work of Interburns. After the recent training workshop in Dhulikhel, several members of the team who will be taking part in the trip met up with local colleagues in Nepal to continue preparations for this ambitious trip. This included meeting with our friend Rabi Thapa who will be organising the motorbikes for the trip, six Royal Enfield Desert Storms, at the ‘Handle Bar’ (!) in Kathmandu. If you ever dreamed of being a World War 2 dispatch rider in the deserts of North Africa as a child then these are definitely the bikes for you.

Rabi was a very gracious host and we were lucky enough to meet a great bunch of people from all over Nepal and many other parts of the world with one thing in common.. a love of motorbikes! As well as a very enjoyable evening it was a good chance to continue our fundraising efforts, which have already raised over £5,000 towards our ultimate goal.

If you would like to donate to Interburns and help us reach our goal of raising over £100,000 for our medical work in Asia and Africa please click on this link.

In preparation for the trip, Interburns director Tom Potokar decided a trip out of Kathmandu to Nuwakot would be the perfect opportunity to get some riding experience on Nepali roads and hired a trail bike for the visit. The only slight complication was that the drive back to the capital was on the festival day Holi, which made him a prime target for water bombs and red paint…

We would like to thank Rabi Thapa for his hospitality in Kathmandu and his help in organising the forthcoming trip.
