First French Essential Burn Care training in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire (May 2015)

May 27, 2015

In May the Pan African Burn Society held their first conference in Francophone Africa in beautiful Abidjan in Cote d’Ivoire. The international conference was delivered in a combination of English and French to burn care clinicians from across Africa, Asia, North America and Europe. Although Interburns delivered Essential Burn Care training at the last PABS conference in Ghana in 2013, this was the occasion of another ‘first’: the first ever EBC training in French. The conference was held from the 12-14th of May with EBC training following on the 15th.

The course was translated by Interburns team member Dominique Potokar who joined colleagues from around the world to deliver the training in Abidjan. Dominique, who is French but works as a burns nurse in Swansea in the UK, had just finished working with colleagues from Ethiopia, Ghana and the UK to develop a Nursing training course in burns in Accra.

More information about the international conference can be found at the PABS website:

Interburns would like to offer special thanks to Dr Richard Nnabuko, President of PABS for his support and to the president of the local organising committee, Dr Brigitte Vilasco, for all her work in organising and hosting the conference and training. Richard and Brigitte are pictured below.
