Burns Awareness in Agartala, India (July 2017)

On the 12th and 13th of July, the  Burn Care Foundation (a social unit of NEMCARE Hospital), in association with Interburns, organised a training programme on Essential  Burn Care  at Tripura Medical College, Agartala. Agartala is the capital of the state of Tripura and one of the largest cities in north-east India.

The programme began with a a Public Awareness program on First Aid and Prevention of Burn on the 12th, inaugurated by the Principal of Tripura Medical College, Dr Sinmoy Biswas. Dr Bhupendra Prasad Sarma, Convener, Burn Care Foundation, made an audio- visual presentation on Causation, First Aid and Prevention of Burns. He emphasised the need of correct and timely first aid to have better prognosis of the patient.  Dr Nareswar Sarma, Sr Consultant surgeon, NEMCARE hospital also spoke on the subject.  Dr Jayanta Kr. Poddar, Prof of Paediatrics , TMC introduced the faculties and the subject. 152 medical students and non professional staff of the college attended the programme.

On 13 July 2017 a Training Program on Essential Burn Care was organised at the same venue with the participation of 76 staff (61 doctors and 15 Nurses) from Tripura Medical College. The program started at 9-30 AM with the introduction of Burn Care Foundation and INTERBURNS by Dr Bhupendra Prasad Sarma and it continued till 5 PM.

The program contained lectures /demonstrations on different aspect of burns, group discussions, skill stations and video presentation on dressings and operative techniques. Besides Dr Sarma, who took a leading role in the presentations, Dr Nareswar Sarma, Dr Kabita S Choudhury and Ms Namita Gogoi also took part in the training sessions. The Session ended with the distribution of Certificates by Dr Jayanta Kr. Poddar. The participants expressed their full  satisfaction on being able to learn the basics of Burn care in the program.
